Back in 1986, (what a memory!) we had an incident where one of our dining room hostesses was cleaning
up the dining room after our lunch rush. This woman walked up to her, and without warning punched her. And then she started shouting, "This little bitch is a thief! She stole my purse! I accidentally left my purse right here on this seat, and she took it!" Our hostess was dumbfounded, and needless to say, taken by surprise. She had no idea what this woman was talking about, and tried to tell her she didn't see this woman's purse. The customer continued yelling, "I want the police here right now! She took my purse! I know she did!" Okay, so the police were called. And guess what? After searching the dining room, the restrooms, and everywhere else anyone could think of, her purse was found in the garbage can, along with her tray and the rest of her garbage. Apparently, she wasn't paying attention to what she was doing, had her purse sitting on her tray when she walked over to the garbage can, and dumped everything in. And do you think that this woman apologized to our hostess? Nope! I just love how people seem to think that we aren't worthy of respect or just simple commom courtesy. And I realize that this woman was upset about losing her purse. Lord knows, I would be in an absolute panic if I lost mine. But to actually go up to someone and punch them without finding out first what happened? And why did she automatically assume that our hostess took her purse? There were other customers in the dining room at the time, and if her purse had actually been stolen, it could have been anyone. But she chose to accuse the fast food employee instead. Yes, there are thieves amongst us, I'm sorry to say. But I don't think that should automatically make all of us suspect just because we work in fast food and don't earn as much money as you do. |
