High Expectations
Our customers expectations, I feel, are too high. They are "spoiled" to the idea of fast food, and patience doesn't exist anymore. When someone wants something, they want it "RIGHT NOW!!". Getting in line and waiting your turn seems to be a problem, and the heck with "first come, first serve". The heck with the fact that there may be ten people ahead of you and only three people in the store to take care of them. The attitudes that many people have almost reminds me of a five year old who whines to his sibling, "I'm going to tell on you!" Because as soon as a customer ends up having to wait longer than they feel they should have to, the first thing they want to do is call corporate headquarters and complain. If we are having problems due to being shorthanded, what the heck do you expect corporate to do about it? Think about it. They can't snap their fingers and produce employees for us out of thin air any more than we can. And it isn't as if we aren't trying. We have "help wanted" signs all over the place. We are not getting enough applicants in the store. We are hiring people as quickly as we can, but if we don't have the applicants, then just where are we supposed to get our employees from? The concept of fast food was a good one at one time, and back when it first started, those restaurants were able to deliver the idea of this concept. However, it is getting increasingly difficult with the passage of time for our restaurants to meet the demands of our customers because many of us are under- staffed. I have been in this business long enough to see a difference in how it was fifteen years ago as opposed to how it is now. Fifteen years ago I can remember having a stack of applications about an inch and a half thick to go through. We had plenty of people we could call and we could afford to be a little more picky about who we hired. Now we are lucky if get four or five applications in one month to look over. |
